TV Show: "The OC"

For those of you who are completely put off by the thought of watching a teen drama/soap; well you probably won't like the OC. But I started from the beginning and as of this point have seen eps 1-20 of series one and I hate to admit it, but its good.

I know you might think Neelix is more entertaining than the adventures of some rich teens living in Newport, California, but I suggest you give it a try and watch from the first episode.

The story revolves around a troubled teen Ryan, from Chino, California, who is adopted by wealthy parents Sandy and Kirsten, who have one child, Seth. As the season progresses, troubles arise as Ryan tries to fit in, but getting caught up with love, violence and homesickness along the way. Although it may seem like a cheesy show, it can be quite quirky and funny at times, as well as being dramatic when it needs to be.

Overall, the OC is a provocative show that makes me think about how we live our lives, and how different some people are from others....lol I'm getting all philosophical on you. Anyhoo, 8 rusty nails out of 10 rusty gutters.

Movie: "The Island"

Long time with no posts, so I'm going to tell you about a movie I saw about 2 months ago, and has recently been released on DVD (23rd November). The Island is one movie that I actually enjoyed this year and it stars Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johannson.

It loosely has aspects of "The Matrix" and "Minority Report" connected with it and has a gripping storyline that should keep you questioning and enthralled for the duration of the film.

The main storyline revolves a secret holding facility, somewhere in the North American desert, where clones of people that can afford to buy them are held. These clones are used for transplants etc. if the person has an injury. Mainly centered around the escape of 2 copies, Jordan Two Delta and Lincoln Six Echo, the story progresses as they find out more and more about the real world and their situation.

Top movie of 05 I think so far, however I haven't yet seen HP...9.5 dislocated heads out of 10.

Movie: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

I haven't posted in about two weeks but I haven't really seen much so the posts would have been kind of blank. Anyhoo, had an epic night last night seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the new one). It was one of the best movies I've seen this year! Although I knew what was going to happen (I'd seen the 1971 version) it was different and had some great graphics and music.

I imagined that the film would be:
- "kiddish" (if that's a word), well I thought it would be kind of colourful and "bland".
- dramatic
- be based on the 1971 movie
- have no/very little music in it

It was actually:
- colourful but there were some good jokes and it wasn't boring
- comedic and dramatic at the same time
- based on the original book and loosely on the 1971 film
- had songs sung by the Oompa Loompas that were catchy and...good!

I recommend it to everyone because everyone that I saw it with (there were 50 people) enjoyed it and they were of all ages.

Five out of five thumbs up and until next time, watch out for the grass nearest to the gutter.

Housekeeping Issues: RSS

As a matter of fact, I discovered by accident that my blog has an RSS feed. For those nerds who are interested (but not interesting), you can add my blog to your bookmarks by clicking the little thing in the corner (in Firefox), and the blog becomes somewhat a "Live Bookmark". It will alert you when I post something! For more information, see the appendix below.

TV Show: Lost

Well another quality TV show is drawing to an end in Australia, and for those of us Lost fans who senselessly watch a television show regarding something that will never actually happen (well maybe) will need to find something else interesting to do on Thursday nights...I know some people may dislike Lost and other shows I like, but they are merely ignorant and would be in the same position if they watched from day 1! For those of you not so bright folk, here's an "overview" of the story. Note how believable it is...The below is thanks to IMDB.
Overall, I give Lost definitely close to an A+, if not an A+. Well OK, it gets an A+. Also, I think 29 disfigured lampshades out of 30. Have a nice day, and watch out for kamikaze slugs.
After a somewhat mysterious sequence of events, an oceanic flight from Sydney to LA crashes on what appears to be a deserted island. The chance of being found and rescued are fairly small, so the survivors have to cope with a set of challenges. They have to learn to survive on the island, a mysterious place with enough dangers on it's own. Also, they have to learn to live with each other if any success is to be expected. And finally, they have to live with themselves and their pasts. Interwoven with the events on the islands are flashbacks to the pasts of some 10 main characters. Step by step, we learn a little more about their diverse and unexpected pasts as the group's quest to survive takes shape.

Movie: 'Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" - DVD

Well I saw this film recently on DVD, and found it somewhat more amusing than you would imagine. Sequels are generally not as good as the first, and this movie carries on that tradition, but not in such as bad way. The movie takes place in 1986, when Harry and Lloyd go to high school and are members of a special needs class - a class only on because the school gets a government grant if they host it. The class is taught by the lunchlady and is taken in a tool shed out the back of the school, and is made up of people selected by Harry and Lloyd, that don't actually need help (eg. a skater dude with a broken arm that is treated as a cripple).

Anyhoo, if it is a rainy day, or you are bored or similar, this movie may give you a laugh or two, and the characters may remind you of some people you have in your class (or as a matter of fact had in your class last year.)

Overall, this movie gets a B+ from me, and 16 out of 20 thumbs up.

Few quotes-
Harry: You found my treasure? Why didn't you tell me?
Lloyd: Three words: I did.

Lloyd: [Lloyd is introducing Turk to Harry] This is my moehawk friend, Turk. He's apart of the cool crowd.
Turk: Shut up, ass face!
Lloyd: That's the Iroquois nickname they gave me for having a strong face of an ass.

Lloyd: You know you're the first person I ever brought here, Harry?
Harry: Is this your special place?
Lloyd: No, I just usually eat in the crapper. Saves time. You know, out with the old, in with the new.
